Test setup

The test set-up was developed by Wood K plus (Tulln). The set-up enables the simultaneous examination of cutting forces and deformations of linear cutting processes at cutting speeds up to 100 m/s. Therefore, the “tool” (a single knife) is installed on a three dimensional force sensor, which is fixed on a machine table. The specimen, which is mounted on a rotating arm, then passes the knife where the cutting process happens. The process is simultaneously recorded by means of a piezo force sensor and high-speed cameras. Thereby cutting forces acting on the knife and deformations within the work piece are analysed.
